BBQs, Hugos and cheesecakes

This spring has been a lot chillier than last year's. It's a shame - I still haven't taken out my motorbike not even once! My man has driven his bike only few times as well, and it's almost June already. Coming weekend we have a few days off, so lets keep fingers crossed that the weather would be warm, and gardening finally ceased to maintaining instead of slavery. Last weekend on Sunday it was finally sunny enough to have breakfast outside.

Days have been busy and long. Lots of things in flux at work, but still impossible to see how things will eventually fold. Last weekend we had guests - couple of girls from work came to visit! It was a great evening with good food, good company and lots of laughter. One of the girls is very much into whiskey, and obviously my man treated her well and they tasted several ones from his collection.

And this weekend I had even more guests! Girls from work came to visit again as my man was in Finland. We cooked, laughed, drank some Hugos and had a blast. It has taken three years to get to this point, but finally I can say that life is good. In several fronts, and damn that is good.

Today it was pretty warm and sunny, so I did again gardening. I had bought some more summer flowers, pots and I had seedlings of my own that needed to be transferred to bigger pots. My back is sore now, but it was also great fun. I took a picture of the puppies - they often keep me company when I'm outside. We have beds for them outside, and inside it feels that the whole house is a giant dog bed. But despite of all these beds, where do they lay outside? In the concrete flooring and on top of a plastic bag. Go figure.

Yksi tytöistä on kovin innostunut viskeistä, joten luonnollisesti mieheni piti hänestä huolta ja he maistelivat useita viskejä mieheni kokoelmasta.

Montreal

My valiant try of writing a blog update in two weeks turned into three due to jet lag and flu. I'm not surprised I managed to catch a cold - two airports and flights in a few days plus jet lag. This time I for once did take it easy, and stayed home for a couple of days to recover. Jet lag took its toll on me as well.

How was Montreal? In all honesty I didn't see that much. I was there only for three days, saw the studio, the apartment I was staying in, one shopping mall and one restaurant. I got the feeling it seems to be a pleasant enough city, although winters there are brutal - possibly even more brutal than winters in Finland. It seems also to be surprisingly cheap city, at least what it comes to the costs of living. The studio that I visited was amazing. Huge amount of space, enough toilets, enough conference and review rooms, big enough desks for all and own offices for producers. The people I got to meet were all great, welcomed me with open arms and for three days I was among my people - animation people. For three days I didn't have to justify my existence like I usually have to every single day. For three days I was with people who speak the same language as I do. For three days I had hope.

I did take some pictures. The apartment I was staying in was very nice, and it was 1 minute walk from the studio.

I took a walk on the first evening just to quickly get a feeling of the surroundings. The apartment was also right next to Chinatown which could be cool I guess. For me not so much as it's never been my thing.

I had two evenings in Montreal after my arrival. On the first one I had the idea of going to a mall that's right there in downtown and easy to walk to. I was very surprised to notice when I got there that even though the mall itself was open until 9pm, the shops had started to close already at 6pm. So I didn't get to go my favourite stores (Ardene), Victoria's Secret (wasn't even located in the mall) or Lucky Brand (again, not located in the mall and I'm not sure, but I think not even in the whole city). I did find Winners, but it was not much fun either. For dinner I chose also one of the rare treats: Five Guys. Their burger was just as good as before, and their shake even better. On my way to the mall I made a quick stop at the Notre Dame of Montreal. Well. It was a big church. I was more impressed by the burger.

In the last evening my hosts took me out for a dinner. They chose a restaurant right in the middle of the city with astonishing view over the whole city. And the food wasn't too bad!

Then it was time to pack my bags and fly home after the third day. I had a ticket to premium economy but they in the end upgraded me at the airport, so I not only had the chance to enjoy better seating and food, but also the joys of the lounge were at my disposal. In the lounge they even had a cook who cooked fresh pasta with garlic and prawns and it was amazing!

Before traveling to Montreal we also had yet another concert we were going to. Disturbed released a new album short while ago, and they stopped in Munich in their world tour. It was a good show, but I was a little bit disappointed with the lead singer - he mainly just posed and sang. I've used to that the singers are running around like maniacs but this one not. But, as said before, live music is always live music and the band is one of my favorites.

Last weekend went being sick on the sofa, but this weekend we finally went to see Avengers: Endgame! And I did myself new nails!

*****

Otin muutamia kuvia.

Matkalla ostarille piipahdin Montrealin Notre Damella. No. Se oli iso kirkko. Olin enemmän vaikuttunut hampurilaisesta.

Viimeisenä iltana isäntäni vei minut illalliselle. He valitsivat ravintolan aivan kaupungin keskustassa huikeilla näkymillä koko kaupungin yli.
