Irvine

Irvine came home this week. I’m sure he will be a great addition to the family, and quickly find his place among other family members. 

You were a bit hassle to get acquainted.

Irvine saapui kotiin tällä viikolla. Olen varma että hänestä  tulee erinomainen lisä perheeseemme, ja hän löytää nopeasti oman paikkansa muiden perheenjäsenten joukossa. 

Tutustumisvaihe oli vähän hässäkkää. 

Irvine, odotan kovasti yhteistä kesäämme.

Stuttgart, Tübingen and friends

Stuttgart was rainy too and we spent there barely a half an hour, but it seemed pretty nice city too. We did visit the Schloss Solitude. 

Then we drove to Tübingen where I met Carolin. It was so so great seeing her after such a long time. A lot has happened in the meanwhile, and at the same time it was like nothing changed. I still mourn the loss of her from my team, and I know that so does my team. Carolin, our hearts go out to you. Our thoughts are with you. 

And Tübingen? It was so pretty, charming and friendly!! I didn’t even know that Germans can be this friendly. And the people there spoke English like it would be everyday thing!  I wish I will have the chance of spending more time there. I really liked the small village.

Stuttgart oli myös sateinen ja vietimme siellä hädin tuskin puoli tuntia, mutta se vaikutti myös mukavalta kaupungilta. Kävimme myös Schloss Solitudessa. 

Sitten ajoimme Tübingeniin jossa tapasin Carolinin. Oli niin mahtavaa nähdä häntä niin pitkän ajan jälkeen. Paljon on tapahtunut, mutta samaan aikaan tuntui siltä että juuri mikään ei ollut muuttunut. Suren edelleen hänen lähtöään tiimistäni, ja tiedän että niin suree myös tiimini. Carolin, olet ajatuksissamme ja sydämissämme. 

Ja Tübingen? Se oli niin kaunis, hurmaava ja ystävällinen! En edes tiennyt että saksalaiset voivat olla näin ystävällisiä. Ja ihmiset siellä puhuivat englantia kuin se olisi jokapäiväinen juttu! Toivon että saan mahdollisuuden viettää enemmän aikaa siellä. Pidin todella paljon pienestä kylästä.

Castles

In the morning it was time to find one of the tourist attractions I was expecting the most: Neuschwanstein Castle. And boy oh boy, was it stunning!! Not too much tourists, we did an English guided tour inside the castle and even the Marienbrücke was open and we took our tourist pictures.

Then we continued Alpenstrasse a short while but decided to drive straight to Stuttgart as day was starting to turn towards evening.

Aamulla oli aika löytää yksi turistinähtävyyksistä jota odotin eniten: Neuschwansteinin linna. Ja voi maailma miten hieno se oli! Ei kovin paljoa turisteja, kävimme englanninkielisellä opastetulla kierroksella linnassa ja jopa Marienbrücke oli avoinna ja saimme turistikuvamme. 

Sitten jatkoimme Alpenstrassea jonkin maktaa kunnes päätimme ajaa suoraan Stuttgartiin koska päivä oli kääntymässä iltaan.

Salzburg, Sacher and sceneries

After picking up the convertible, it was time to hit the road and drive straight to Salzburg. The weather was pretty bad, heavy rain for the most part. The car was a good drive even in this heavy rain – steady, reliable and the fancy technology helped too. The next morning it still rained heavily, but the hotel we stayed for the night was awesome! It was a castle, and the interiors of it were just stunning. 

Then we went to the city itself, drove around a little bit and had a piece of original Sacher-cake at Café Sacher. For me the city of Salzburg seemed very beautiful and definitely something I want to visit again. 

Then it was time to hit the road in the search of Deutche Alpenstrasse. We did find it, and the car was a good drive there too. Lazy for sure, but manageable. We had problems with following the Alpenstrasse because there was a sudden block of the road and it took us a lot of tries to get back on track. We did it in the end, and the sceneries were just breathtakingly beautiful. Mountains, meadows and lakes were our companions for the rest of the day before arriving to Garmisch-Partenkirchen where we stayed for the night.

Kun avoauto oli haettu, oli aika lähteä tien päälle ja ajaa suoraan Salzburgiin. Sää oli melko huono, suurelta osin voimakasta sadetta. Auto oli hyvä ajettava huonossakin säässä – vakaa, luotettava ja uusi hieno teknologia auttoi myös. Seuraavana aamuna satoi edelleen voimakkaasti, mutta hotelli jossa yövyimme oli mahtava! Se oli linna, ja sisätilat olivat mykistävän hienot. 

Sitten menimme itse kaupunkiin, ajelimme hieman ympäriinsä ja söimme palat originaalia Sacher-kakkua Café Sacherissa. Salzburg oli todella kaunis kaupunki ja haluan ehdottomasti vierailla siellä uudestaan. 

Sitten oli aika lähteä tien päälle löytääksemme Deutche Alpenstrassen. Löysimme sen, ja auto oli hyvä ajettava myös siellä. Toki laiska, mutta siedettävä. Meillä oli vaikeuksia seurata Alpenstrassea sillä tie oli yllättäen suljettu ja jouduimme yrittämään useamman kerran ennen kuin pääsimme takaisin oikealle tielle. Lopulta onnistuimme, ja maisemat olivat henkeäsalpaavan kauniita. Vuoret, niityt ja järvet olivat seuranamme lopun päivää ennen saapumistamme Garmisch-Partenkircheniin jossa yövyimme seuraavan yön.

The convertible

As I wrote, during the weekend I was on a roadtrip. My friend arrived to Germany as planned and I picked her up from the airport. Then it was time to get the car. I had rented a convertible and I got exactly what I was expecting. 

She was a thirsty beast, but unfortunately way too lazy for my taste. Very steady on the highway, but when hitting the pedal to the medal, nothing happened. Full of fancy new technology and yet undoubtedly the worst navigation operation system I've ever seen. She was also very big. I mean long and wide. Had couple of scary moments with her on the serpentine roads when there was a bus coming towards us and nowhere to yield and road was very, very narrow... But, all went well, she was all in all enough comfort to enjoy the driving.

Kuten kirjoitin, viikonloppuna olin roadtripillä. Ystäväni saapui Saksaan suunnitellusti ja menin lentokentälle häntä vastaan. Sitten oli aika hakea auto. Olin vuokrannut avoauton ja sain juuri sen mitä odotinkin. 

Se oli janoinen peto, mutta valitettavasti aivan liian laiska minun makuuni. Hyvin tasainen moottoritiellä, mutta kun painoi kaasun pohjaan, mitään ei tapahtunut. Täynnä uutta hienoa teknologiaa ja silti epäilemättä huonoin navigaattorin käyttöliittymä jonka olen koskaan nähnyt. Se oli myös hyvin iso. Tarkoitan siis pitkä ja leveä. Meillä oli muutama jännä hetki serpentiiniteillä kun vastaan tuli bussi eikä tilaa väistää ollut ja tie oli hyvin, hyvin kapea... Mutta, kaikki meni hyvin, se oli kaiken kaikkiaan tarpeeksi mukava ajettava jotta ajaminen oli nautinto. 

Road trip

Today it is time to head to the airport to pick up my friend who is arriving from Finland to visit me, get the rental convertible and head to Salzburg. Then it is exploring Salzburg a little, driving Alpenstrasse and visiting the Disney castle. In the end we will go to Stuttgart for one another castle and hopefully I get the chance of meeting one good friend.

Tänään on aika suunnata lentokentälle Suomesta saapuvaa ystävääni vastaan, noutaa vuokraamani avoauto ja huristaa Salzburgiin. Sitten on vuorossa kaupunkiin tutustumista, Alpenstrassella ajamista ja Disney linnassa vierailua. Lopuksi menemmä Stuttgartiin erään toisen linnan takia ja toivottavasti pystyn tapaamaan hyvää ystävääni.

Seuraavan kerran kirjoitan päivityksen ensi viikolla kun ystäväni on palannut Suomeen. Nauttikaa viikonlopusta, ja voitte olla varmoja että minä nautin omastani suuresti urheilullisessa avoautossani!

Last day

And so our time in China came to an end. It was clearly an excellent trip! Lots of good things and very friendly people. Even though I had my doubts when going there, I can gladly say that I was wrong! As it was our last day, we went for a lunch with the whole team.

And as a last day, I wanted quickly to go and check out one shopping mall that we passed by every day. It was pretty big, but as it turns out, I don't like Chinese shopping malls. Completely wrong style for me, and cultural differences way too big. Sales ladies were standing right there next to you when you entered a shop... Very unpleasant for a western. 

And then it was time to go on the journey to home. We woke up early as hell, but the view from my hotel room window was pretty nice.

Ja niin aikamme Kiinassa päättyi. Matka oli mitä mainioin! Paljon hyviä asioita ja erittäin ystävällisiä ihmisiä. Vaikka minulla oli epäilykseni, voin myöntää ilolla että olin väärässä. Koska oli viimeinen päivämme, menimme lounaalle koko tiimin kanssa.

Ja koska oli viimeinen päivä, kävin pikaisesti ostoskeskuksessa jonka ohi kuljimme joka päivä. Se oli melko iso, mutta kuten kävi ilmi, en juuri pidä kiinalaisista ostareista. Minulle täysin väärä tyyli, ja aivan liian isot kulttuurierot. Myyjäneitoset seisoivat aivan vieressäsi kun astuit sisään kauppaan... Erittäin epämiellyttävää länsimaalaiselle. 

Ja sitten olikin aika lähteä kotimatkalle. Heräsimme todella aikaisin, mutta näkymä hotellihuoneeni ikkunasta oli erittäin kaunis.
